Franklin College football blanked at Mount St. Joseph

A week ago, Franklin College was able to keep pace with HCAC co-leader, Rose-Hulman, for a half before falling short.

Saturday’s trip to face the other team atop the league standings didn’t go nearly so well, as the Grizzlies suffered a 55-0 loss at Mount St. Joseph.

Franklin (3-5, 3-2 HCAC) trailed 13-0 after the first quarter and never got back into the game, allowing 703 yards of offense and getting outgained 579-93 through the air.

Josh Taylor threw eight touchdown passes for the Lions (7-1, 5-0), with Cornell Beachem Jr. — who finished with 15 receptions for 250 yards — accounting for four of those scores.

Garrett Cora rushed for 75 yards to lead the Grizzlies, while Zane Downing and Kam Jennings added 72 and 68, respectively. De’Marreia Stephens and DeMarion Newell led the Franklin defense with seven tackles apiece, with Stephens also intercepting a pass.

The Grizzlies will host Manchester this coming Saturday afternoon at Faught Stadium.
