Franklin College receives grant, boosts 21st Century Scholars programming

Franklin College has been selected to receive a $79,508 grant from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education as part of its 2023 College Success Program.

Per the grant, funding must be used to build and enhance new staffing capacity to support a priority student population. Franklin College has selected 21st Century Scholars as its student priority population, college officials announced Thursday.

In addition to developing structured programming specific to 21st Century Scholars, the college will hire a College Success Coach to serve as a resource to the Scholars.

“We want to make sure that all of our 21st Century Scholars have the resources and support they need to persist and succeed,” Andrew Jones, vice president for student affairs and dean of students, said in a statement. “We recognize the need for tailored, individualized support, and this grant will allow us to do precisely that.”

The goal is to increase student retention and success by providing programming and direct support, in addition to connecting students to various on-campus resources, information and services to assist them in completing their degrees, school officials said.

“We are very grateful to the Indiana Commission for Higher Education for its support,” Franklin College President Kerry Prather said in a statement. “Franklin has been recognized nationally for enabling social mobility, especially for first-generation students. This grant allows us to expand and improve our support system for this cohort of students, helping ensure their academic success and ultimate graduation.”
