First responders were called to a serious vehicle crash at around 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Commerce Parkway West Drive. The crash is believed to involve a car and semi, said Matt Fillenwarth, Greenwood Police assistance chief.

At 8:54 a.m., the Greenwood Fire Department confirmed in a Facebook post there was one fatality. The Johnson County Coroner’s Office later said they were conducting a death investigation in conjunction with Greenwood Police.

Main Street is blocked from Interstate 65 to Graham Road. As of 8:54 a.m., GPD was estimating the roadway to be closed for six hours as they investigate the crash. Just before 11 a.m., Fillenwarth said the road would likely remain closed for a few more hours.

The Interstate 65 northbound ramp to Main Street is closed, and the Greenwood Fire Department is encouraging drivers to consider exiting at Worthsville Road.
