Baird appointed to Indiana County Commissioners board

Johnson County Commissioner Brian Baird was elected by his peers to serve on the executive board of Indiana County Commissioners, or ICC, an association that represents county commissioners across the state’s 92 counties.

He will serve on the executive board as vice president, a position that helps keep the executive board in line with its strategic plan and build collaboration amongst its members across the state, according to a press release from ICC.

“Associations like ICC are extremely important in helping guide positive policy for local communities,” Baird said in a statement on the appointment. “As I consider how I spend my time representing Johnson County, I’m intentional on what I believe my constituents expect of my leadership at the state level. I can’t think of a better organization than ICC to spend my volunteer hours helping develop and secure policies and programs that benefit the people I serve in my community and beyond.”

The ICC is a nonprofit organization established to provide education, leadership support and advocacy services for county commissioners across the state with the goal of strengthening county voices throughout Indiana. The various functions of the ICC include serving as liaison among counties, state and federal agencies, lobbying the Indiana General Assembly on behalf of county commissioners, as well as providing technical assistance and training to county commissioners and support staff, according to ICC.

“As outgoing president of the board, I can reflect timely on my role as vice president and feel confident Brian will bring a great deal of energy and new perspective to the leadership team as he advances within the organization,” said 2023 ICC Board Chairman Mark Heirbrandt in a statement. “I’m pleased the board voted Brian into this position and look forward to watching his leadership unfold at the next level in the coming years.”

The ICC also elected Kellie Streeter, Knox County, as President; Chris Switzer, Vigo County, as Treasurer; and Suzanne Weirick, Elkhart County, as Secretary.
