Community bands to hold Christmas concerts this weekend

Local music lovers will be in a winter wonderland this weekend with a pair of holiday-themed performances by area community bands.

The Crossroads Brass Band and Greater Greenwood Community Band have both planned special seasonal shows on Saturday, making everything merry and bright through song.

At 2 p.m. Saturday, the Crossroads Brass Band will present its Christmas concert at Greenwood United Methodist Church, 525 N. Madison Ave. The band will perform a wide range of music including traditional Christmas music and some selections of international holiday music. Renowned organist Drew Worthen will provide a guest performance. The concert is free and open to the public.

The Greater Greenwood Community Band hosts its “Christmas Celebration” concert at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Greenwood High School auditorium. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. This festive evening will be a delightful blend of traditional Christmas music performed by the band, narration by Greenwood Mayor Mark Myers, and performances by dancers from Style Dance Academy, the community band’s jazz ensemble,plus a visit from Santa Claus.

In support of local families in need, the Interchurch Food Pantry of Johnson County will collect canned food donations at the concert. Attendees are encouraged to contribute non-perishable items. Cash donations are also welcomed to support the band’s initiatives.

This holiday concert is free to attend and open to all. No tickets are required.
