Grizzly Cubs load up in Mid-State prelims

Franklin positioned itself well during Thursday’s preliminaries to reclaim the Mid-State Conference titles from host Plainfield, with the boys landing 21 of a possible 24 swimmers in championship finals and the girls putting in 20. Franco Chirinos earned the top seed for Saturday in both the 200- and 500-yard freestyles, with teammate Aleksandr Ries first in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke and Isaac Layton first in the 100 butterfly. On the girls side, Lili Ratzlaff is seeded first in the 200 IM and 100 free, with Reagan Graves No. 1 in the 200 free.

Greenwood, led by top seed Hailey Peckinpaugh in the girls 500 freestyle, filled six girls and seven boys spots in championship finals; Whiteland will be represented in the A finals by three girls and two boys.

Relays and diving will be added to the mix on Saturday, with finals slated to begin at noon.

Cougars fall against Jets

Down by just two at halftime, Greenwood Christian was doomed by a scoreless third quarter in a 47-35 loss at Hauser on Thursday. The Cougars fall to 4-12 on the season.
