Harry Shaw

NEW WHITELAND

Harry Shaw, 84, of New Whiteland, passed away on January 3rd, 2024 at Franciscan Hospice House. He was surrounded by loved ones.

He is survived by his wife, Anna May, his 4 children, Brenda Garza of Indianapolis, John Shaw of New Whiteland, David (Laura Whitcombe) Shaw of West Lafayette and Diane (Todd) Daeger of Greenwood, his 6 grandchildren, Kyle (Marissa) Garza, Colin Garza, Brandy Shaw, Jessica (Ray) Light, McKenzie Daeger and Keaton Daeger, his 7 great-grandchildren, Mikael Crawford, Liam Crawford, Lukas Crawford, Avereigh Shaw, Jeremey Light, Lydia Garza and Hayden Garza, and his brother, Bill Shaw.

Harry was born shortly after his twin brother Harold in Indianapolis in 1939, the 11th and final child of parents Ulysses Grant Shaw and (likely-exhausted) Sarah Elizabeth Shaw.

Harry and Anna May were married for 64 years. His wife and children were his world, embarking yearly on family vacations to favorite getaways like Gatlinburg and Virginia Beach. He retired from Adam’s Ala Carte in 2004 after 42 years. In retirement, Harry drove for various car dealerships in the area.

Throughout his life, Harry enjoyed woodworking, crafting an array of outdoor furniture, porch swings and toy chests over the years. At some point in the mid-seventies, around the time he used his children to change TV channels in lieu of a remote, he may have invented the ‘dad-joke.’ Harry, too, was a perennial gold-medal favorite at the Dad Olympics in the category of ‘Power Napping.’

On behalf of Harry’s family, special thanks and appreciation go to the Franciscan Hospice House for their kind and compassionate care.

No services will take place, as Harry requested, but his family appreciates your love and support during this difficult time.
