Here’s what’s going on with I-69 the week of Jan. 8

The finish line is in sight for the Interstate 69 project.

Indiana Department of Transportation crews are back to work after a brief holiday break, and the new I-69 is on schedule to open by the end of 2024. Until then, southside and Johnson County drivers should be prepared to continue to encounter construction work.

Drivers should also be alert for intermittent eastbound and westbound traffic stoppages on I-465 between Lick Creek and Interstate 65 through March while demolition work on existing pavement continues. Intermittent stoppages should only last up to 20 minutes at a time, according to INDOT.

Additionally, the southbound U.S. 31/East Street ramp to I-465 westbound will remain closed into summer 2024.

In Johnson County, single-lane restrictions on southbound State Road 37/I-69 between Smith Valley Road and State Road 144 began Monday and will last through Friday as crews remove a temporary barrier wall. This schedule is weather-dependent and may be delayed if necessary, according to INDOT.

Intermittent stoppages are scheduled starting Thursday on southbound State Road 37 between Olive Branch Road and State Road 144 for overhead sign installation. Stoppages are expected between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m. for up to 20 minutes at a time, INDOT officials say.
