Greenwood man to serve 7+ years for drug trafficking

A Greenwood man will serve more than seven years in federal prison for participating in drug trafficking.

Elijah “Eli” Conn pleaded guilty on Jan. 11 to conspiring to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl before Judge Matthew P. Brockman of the U.S. District Court of Southern Indiana. He was sentenced to 87 months, or 7.25 years, in federal prison, which will be served concurrent to any remaining state prison terms. Once his time in prison is complete, he will be on supervised release for four years, according to court documents.

Brockman recommended Conn, also referred to in court documents as “Whiteboy Eli,” undergo evaluation for possible participation in mental health counseling and substance abuse treatment, post-secondary education and occupational programs. A recommendation was also made for him to be incarcerated at one of two federal corrections facilities in Florida to be close to family, court documents show.

Conn is one of six Greenwood-area residents who were charged by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana last year for allegedly participating in drug trafficking.

Federal prosecutors alleged that Conn, along with Deondre “Dre” Perry, Brooke Woods, Brittina “Tina” Jones, George Muncy and Rhonda Muncy, were part of a drug trafficking organization from Spring 2021 through June 2, 2022, according to court documents. Everyone named has been criminally charged.

The goal of the operation was to distribute 100 grams of a substance containing traces of fentanyl and at least 400 grams of fentanyl itself, court documents show.

The organization allegedly distributed the fentanyl-containing drugs in the Indianapolis metropolitan area. Perry was allegedly the leader of the operation, and supervised the distribution with assistance from Woods, who he lived with, court documents say.

As part of the conspiracy, Conn, Jones, George Muncy and Rhonda Muncy all allegedly received the drugs and helped distribute them. Conn sold the pills to customers on his own, and also did so at the direction of Perry, U.S. Attorneys allege.

Conn is now the fourth of the group to be sentenced. Others who were sentenced are:

  • Rhonda Muncy, of Greenwood; sentenced on Sept. 14 to 72 months, or 6 years, in prison.
  • George Muncy, of Greenwood; sentenced on Oct. 4 to 18 months, or 1.5 years.
  • Perry, of Greenwood; sentenced on Nov. 30 to 35 years. He is appealing his sentence.

The cases against Woods and Jones, who are both charged with conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, are ongoing. A plea and sentencing hearing for Woods is set for March 13, while a jury trial for Jones is currently set for Feb. 12.
