Trafalgar woman found dead after exposure to cold temperatures

Officials are investigating the death of a Trafalgar woman who was exposed to cold temperatures.

The Johnson County Coroner’s Office assisted the Trafalgar Police Department and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office with a death investigation on Thursday. An elderly woman was found dead outside a home on the 200 block of S. Pleasant St. in Trafalgar, according to a Friday morning news release from the coroner’s office.

Emergency crews responded to the call at 7:08 a.m. Thursday and determined the woman was dead upon their arrival. She was found two blocks away from her home, the news release says.

The woman was identified as 85-year-old Rose M. Outcalt.

An autopsy was performed on Thursday. Her cause of death is pending toxicology results but foul play is not suspected, according to the news release.

It has already been determined that exposure to cold temperatures was a contributing factor in Outcalt’s death, the news release said.
