College notebook: Coffman a three-time winner for Marian track

Former Franklin hurdler Brooke Coffman was a three-time winner for Marian University at the Rob Johnson Invite, an indoor track and field meet at Wabash College.

The freshman was first in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.44 seconds, the high jump with a best of 5 feet, 5 inches and part of the 4×400 relay that clocked a time of 4 minutes, 13.29 seconds.

In men’s competition, Drew McGaha of Franklin College placed third in the 400-meter dash in 53.61 seconds.

Franklin

Sophomore guard Ashlyn Traylor-Walker scored 10 points, seven rebounds and three steals as the Radford women’s basketball team won over visiting Winthrop, 63-55. In the team’s 80-71 triumph at Gardner-Webb, Traylor-Walker finished with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Franklin College senior swimmer Regan Hendricks finished third in the 200 breaststroke in 2:35.91 in the Grizzlies’ win over DePauw.

Center Grove

Kentucky freshman Shelby Wingler finished seventh in the shot put (47-7¼) and ninth in the weighted throw (54-8¾) at the Rod McCravy Memorial indoor track and field meet at Louisville.

Indiana University freshman Garrett Messer placed seventh in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.44 seconds at the Commodore Challenge indoor track and field meet at Vanderbilt. He also finished 10th in the shot put (47 feet, ¾ inches).

Freshman Parker Doyle ran on Indiana State’s third-place 4×400 at the school’s Coughlan-Malloy Cup indoor track and field meet, running a time of 3:27.5.

Bentley guard Ella Thompson scored four points, had three rebounds, four assists and two steals in a 65-52 win over Franklin Pierce. She added 12 points and seven assists in a 66-47 defeat of Southern Connecticut State.

Guard Emma Utterback finished with 20 points, six rebounds and three assists as Vermont women’s basketball won at NJIT, 68-55.

Senior guard Claire Rake had eight points and three boards for Truman State in a 75-56 loss at Illinois-Springfield.

Indiana Wesleyan guard Marcus Ankney had 12 points, four rebounds and four assists to help the Wildcats in their 100-91 defeat of Mt. Vernon Nazarene. He grabbed three rebounds and contributed an assist in IWU’s 99-62 win at Goshen College.

Junior forward Justin DeGraaf scored five points and had a rebound for UC San Diego in an 86-61 win at Cal Poly.

Indian Creek

Marian runner Luci Woodrum won the 3,000-meter run in a time of 11:49 during the Rob Johnson Invite at Wabash College.

Freshman guard Abby Fleetwood finished with 15 points, four rebounds and two assists for Spring Arbor in its 84-65 win at Huntington. She had two points, two boards and a steal in a 79-65 defeat of Bethel College.

Whiteland

Lipscomb junior Bella Jackson finished 17th in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.27 seconds during the Commodore Challenge indoor track and field meet at Vanderbilt.

Bowling Green graduate student Reagan Emberton tied her personal best in the weighted throw (55-2¼) to finish second in the Falcons’ Early Bird Open indoor track meet. Emberton also was runner-up in the shot put thanks to a distance of 45-3¾.

Freshman Austin Willoughby had seven points, two rebounds and a blocked shot as Manchester men’s basketball won at Earlham, 73-56. He finished with 10 points and three rebounds in a 73-70 home loss to Rose-Hulman.

Greenwood

University of Indianapolis junior Emily Bonser took fifth in the weighted throw with a distance of 49 feet, ½ inch at the Robert H. Johnson indoor track and field meet at Wabash College. Franklin College senior Mallory Watson placed third in the women’s mile in 5:45.57. On the men’s side, UIndy sophomore Dylan Mayhew was runner-up in the weighted throw, going 58-6¾.

Greenwood Christian

Freshman Blake Shewmaker had five points, four rebounds and two assists for Manchester in its 73-56 victory at Earlham. He added eight points in a 73-70 home loss to Rose-Hulman.

Wabash College defeated visiting Hiram College, 89-50, with Champ McCorkle scoring four points and grabbing two rebounds for the Little Giants. Styles McCorkle had one point and two boards.
