First Presbyterian Church organ recital rescheduled

After cold weather caused a glitch with its organ, First Presbyterian Church in Franklin has rescheduled a recital for this coming weekend.

Colin Andrews, music director at the church, will perform “La Nativité du Seigneur,” or “The Nativity of the Savior,” by famed French composer Olivier Messiaen at 12:15 p.m. Jan. 28 at the church, 100 E. Madison St. “La Nativité du Seigneur” as a series of meditations on the seminal moment of Christian faith, from the Virgin Mary with her child to the arrival of the Magi.

Andrews had planned on performing the concert on Jan. 21. But it had to be rescheduled after extreme cold caused a cipher — a pipe valve stuck in the open position so the note sounds after the key on the keyboard has been released.

“The cipher began during the playing of the Postlude of the worship service, shortly before the concert was scheduled to begin,” said Peter Jessen, pastor at First Presbyterian Church. “There really wasn’t anything we could do.”

With warmer weather forecast for this weekend, church organizers do not expect a repeat of the cipher issue.

The concert is free and open to the public.
