GREAT NORTH AMERICAN ECLIPSE, 2-3 p.m. Jan. 27, Johnson County Public Library Franklin branch, 401 State St.

On April 8, Johnson County and large swaths of North America will be plunged in the darkness of a total solar eclipse. To get up to speed on all that is happening, the Franklin library is featuring a program by eclipse expert Dan McGlaun. McGlaun is a veteran eclipse chaser, having experienced totality 14 times since his first eclipse in 1991. He operates the website eclipse2024.org. There, website visitors can see a simulation of what the eclipse will look like from their zip code, among other information in preparation of the celestial event.
