Elsie Coile was born Elsie June Treon, September 23, 1919, in Edinburgh, Indiana, to Fred and Opal Treon. They soon moved back to the family farm near Edinburgh, near the small community of Mount Auburn. Elsie grew up on the farm, chopping wood, driving a team of horses, and pitching hay. She was a graduate of the Mount Auburn High School.Elsie eventually met and married Gailen Abbett, of Edinburgh. This union produced two children; daughter Michele Lorraine, and son, Gailen Jr. (Butch). This marriage ended in divorce after a few years, leaving Elsie working long hours as a single mom. About two and a half years later, there in Edinburgh, she met and married Daniel Bough, formerly of Linton, IN, and recently released from the Army after being in the Infantry in W. W. II. Their marriage lasted over 20 happy years, until cancer took Daniel away. Now in Georgia, where Daniel had been working, Elsie caught the attention of a widower named Harold Coile. After fifteen years of living alone, she remarried. They were doing well until a preconditioned heart problem took Harold away.Through her son, Gailen, Elsie was “Granny” to four grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great grand-daughter. Her daughter, Michele, also had one son, before cancer took her at the age of 43.Elsie was in her forties before giving her heart to God, but she did so deeply, and faithfully. She was faithful to her Church, often making visits into homes with the Pastor’s wife, and giving out Gospel literature as she went about her daily business. She became a member of the Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church in Gray, TN after moving here to live with her son. She faithfully supported her Church, and its missions program.When Daniel Bough passed away in 1973, Elsie purchased the plot next to his, and ordered a tombstone with his name and birth date and death date on it. She also had her name and birth date engraved on the stone. She has always said that when her time came she wanted to be laid to rest next to him, there in the Rest Haven Cemetery of Edinburgh, IN. and her wishes are being respected totally. A graveside service will be held there, Feb. 9, at 11 AM. In speaking of Mary of Bethany in Mark 14:8, Jesus said: “She hath done what she could.” Elsie tried to do what she could for God with her long life. God asks for no more!
