Ride IndyGo for free during All-Star Weekend

NBA All-Star 2024 will prove to be one of the busiest weekend of the year in Indianapolis.

Events and activities are set to stretch from early mornings well into the late night from Feb. 15 to 18. Thousands and thousands of fans are expected to flood the downtown area from all over the United States, and the world.

Which means parking will be at a premium.

People should be prepared to park far away from the various activities and walk. But local public transportation advocates have a better solution.

IndyGo has announced a fare-free weekend from Feb. 15 to 18, including a line picking and dropping riders off in Greenwood. The 902 Connector runs from the northern side of Greenwood Park Mall north to the University Station (University of Indianapolis) at the southern end of the Red Line.

From there, riders will have rapid transit access to downtown, said Carrie Black, director of communications for IndyGo, in an email. Once people reach the Julia M. Carson Transit Center downtown, many activities are within walking distance.

“This is a great option for riders in Johnson County, because the connector serves as a park and ride with plenty of available mall parking right there at the 902 Greenwood Park Mall bus stop,” Black said.

General service hours will be 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday. Saturday hours are 6:20 a.m. to 10 p.m., while Sunday runs from 7:35 a.m. to 9:50 p.m. All have 45-minute frequency of buses.

“We highly encourage people to plan their trip using Google Maps or the Transit app for real-time information on when the bus will arrive,” Black said.
