Women’s swim & dive leads HCAC

Franklin College took first in five more events Friday to head into the final day of the HCAC championships with a comfortable 616-442 lead over second-place Transylvania. The Grizzlies got event wins from Celeste Hollis (100 butterfly), Samantha Phillips (200 freestyle), Caileigh McCafferty (100 breaststroke), Kat Lundy (100 backstroke) and the 200 medley relay. The men, who also won the medley relay and got a victory in the 400 individual medley from Kosmo Wojack, sit in second place behind Rose-Hulman.

Women’s basketball tops Engineers

Franklin College sealed the No. 4 seed in the HCAC tournament with a 74-58 home win over Rose-Hulman on Friday night. Taylor Cooney finished with 22 points to lead the Grizzlies (16-9, 11-7), who will host the Engineers in a quarterfinal rematch at 4 p.m. on Sunday. Briley Munchel (11 points) and Jordan Coon (10) joined Cooney in double figures, with Payton Seay and Brooke Grinstead adding eight points each.

Men’s basketball edged at Rose-Hulman

Down 16 at halftime, Franklin College stormed back to within one late before taking a 68-66 loss at Rose-Hulman on Friday. Jessie Morgan Jr. had 20 points and Ryan Bostic 16 for the Grizzlies (12-12, 10-7 HCAC), who head into the conference tournament with the No. 5 seed and will travel to Manchester for a 4 p.m. quarterfinal on Sunday.
