Byron Michael Miner

INDIANAPOLIS

Byron Michael Miner, 77, of Indianapolis, IN passed away on February 18th, 2024. He was surrounded by his loving wife and family.

Byron, or Mike as he was known to some, was born on December 4th, 1946 in Indianapolis, IN. He was the son of Benjamin Lloyd Miner, Jr. and Fern Emma Miner (nee Meyer) of Indianapolis.

On December 4th, 1965 he made a commitment to the love of his life, Louise, and they honored that commitment to each other as they remained happily married for 58 years.

Byron was an incredibly hard worker who believed in staying busy and being productive. From the 1970s until 2015, he owned and operated two businesses in the automotive industry. Consistent with his belief in working hard and being productive, he also worked the afternoon shift at Eli Lilly for 15 years during the 1970s and 1980s. More recently, he worked part-time at the United States Postal Service. Weeks prior to his passing, he expressed how he wished he could go back to work.

At home, Byron was an incredibly loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who provided a lifetime of laughter as he shared jokes and funny stories about life experiences. No one could question his commitment to his family as he remained with them every step of the way. Sometimes he offered guidance. Sometimes he asked questions that helped guide us. Sometimes he just listened. Byron was an incredibly sweet and loving soul who expressed his love to his wife and children to the very end.

Throughout the years, Byron enjoyed playing chess, basketball, golf and shooting pool. In his later years he enjoyed talking politics, discussing our country’s future, and solving Sudoku puzzles in his favorite recliner.

Our father’s passing makes us realize how life on earth is divided into three phases. Early in life, Dad attended St. Paul’s Lutheran before graduating from Manual High School and going on to attend Indiana University-Purdue University in Indianapolis. In the second phase, Dad established a family and his career. Later in life, he and Louise enjoyed spending time together with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. To his wife and children, however, he was their whole life. We love you, Pop. You will be missed, buddy.

To our loving Dad, God is now with you and has you in His loving arms. We look forward to the day all of us are reunited in heaven where we will be together for eternity.

Surviving are his loving wife, Louise (Dobson) Miner; his children Michael (Carla) Brandmaier, Debbie (James) Leija, Ronda (John) Whyde and Lance (Sarah) Miner; four grandchildren Krystal (Brian) Rapp, Michael R. Brandmaier, Joshua Brandmaier, and Dylan Miner; and two great-grandchildren, Colin Rapp and Caroline Rapp; one sister Karen West; and one brother, Beryle (Linda) Miner.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Fern Miner; three sisters Beverly Thompson, Lillian White and Kim Tucher; and his brother, Benjamin Miner III.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at G. H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home, 1605 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, IN. A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at the Gardens at Olive Branch Cemetery.
