Softball sweeps Sunday twinbill

Franklin College took a Sunday trip to Centre and came away with a pair of victories, claiming a 10-7 win in the opener and then holding on in the nightcap, 6-5. Lauren Duncan was a double winner in the pitching circle for the Grizzlies (5-1); offensively, Genesis Munoz drove in four runs on the day and Abbey Martin three, while Eriana Wagner scored twice in each contest.

Baseball 0pens season in Tennessee

Franklin College’s season-opening trip to Memphis, Tennessee started out with a 10-6 victory at Rhodes before the weekend brought a 7-1 loss to Webster and an 18-14 Sunday setback against North Central. Adam Taylor had a home run and five RBIs in the finale for the Grizzlies (1-2), while A.J. Sanders sealed the Friday win with a late three-run bomb.

Track and field competes at HCAC indoor

A pair of gold medals highlighted Franklin’s College’s Saturday at the HCAC indoor championship in Terre Haute. Sarah O’Day was a winner in the 60-meter dash and also took third in the 200 meters, while the Grizzlies’ distance medley relay team of Haley Makowski, Vicki Arney, Ella Bashor and Mallory Watson also took first place. Alison Muck claimed silver in the high jump.

The men’s team also finished fifth, with the lone medal a third-place finish from the distance medley relay team of Elliott Gough, Drew McGaha, Nathan Furnish and Sam Wilson.
