UPDATE: Greenwood police respond to shots fired incident in Summerfield Place

UPDATE: Feb. 29 at 11:20 a.m.

Greenwood police have provided more information about Wednesday’s shots fired incident-turned-standoff.

The standoff with a man inside a home in the 2000 block of Blossom Drive ended at about 9 p.m. Wednesday night — about five-and-a-half hours after it began. No one was injured, including the male subject who surrendered peacefully, said Matt Fillenwarth, assistant chief of police.

Reports initially indicated that the call involved a potential suicide attempt. The man reportedly had told police he had shot himself, but this turned out to be not true, Fillenwarth said.

Shots were fired inside the house but did not hit anyone, he said.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital where is held on immediate detention for mental health, Fillenwarth said.

The incident is still under investigation and it is unclear if any charges will be filed. Greenwood Police are thankful that the incident ended peacefully with no injuries, Fillenwarth said.
