Right-lane of I-65 to close Monday near Whiteland, Franklin

A one-night lane closure is set for Monday night on Interstate 65 in central Johnson County.

The right lane of southbound I-65 at mile marker 92.6, between the Whiteland and Franklin exits, will close from 9 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday. Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Midwestern Electric Inc. will install a dynamic message board along the interstate, according to INDOT.

The Johnson County closure is just one of seven closures planned along I-65 for dynamic message board installations by Midwestern Electric. Other closures will take place in Bartholomew, Scott and Clark counties from Tuesday through April 11, INDOT officials say.

Other lane closures will take place:

  • Tuesday (9 p.m to 6 a.m.): Southbound I-65 at mile marker 79 in Bartholomew County.
  • Wednesday (9 p.m to 6 a.m.): Northbound I-65 at mile marker 71.3 in Bartholomew County.
  • Thursday (9 p.m to 6 a.m.): Southbound I-65 at mile marker 52.3 in Bartholomew County.
  • Tuesday, April 9 (9 p.m to 6 a.m.): Southbound I-65 at mile marker 31.2 in Scott County.
  • Wednesday, April 10 (9 p.m to 6 a.m.): Northbound I-65 at mile marker 26.5 in Scott County.
  • Thursday, April 11 (9 p.m to 6 a.m.): Southbound I-65 at mile marker 21.4 in Clark County.

INDOT officials say the work is part of a $6.5 million contract awarded to Midwestern Electric in March 2022. They also ask drivers to slow down, use extra caution and avoid distractions when traveling near work zones.

All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change, according to INDOT.
