Charles Earl Henderson, Jr.

GREENWOOD, INDIANA

Charles Earl Henderson Jr, 82, former Greenwood mayor and long-time public servant, went to join his wife Donna Henderson in God’s Kingdom on May 13, 2024. He was a devoted Christian and loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He was born in Greenwood, IN to Charles Earl Henderson and Nellie Henderson on August 28, 1941. After graduating from Greenwood High School in 1960, he married Donna Waltz in 1962. He went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps and the Greenwood Police Department while owning multiple businesses. In 1984, he was appointed as Greenwood Police Chief before serving as mayor from 1996 to 2012.

Charles enjoyed nature, traveling, hiking, and bicycling. After retiring from the mayor’s office, he and Donna spent their summers camping and enjoying the outdoors. He never stopped learning about subjects that piqued his interest or telling jokes with a smile. Above all, he valued quality time with his friends and family, who brought him immeasurable joy.

He is survived by his children, Chip Henderson and DeMaris Gaunt; his grandchildren Jayden Green, Isaac Schwager, and Will Gaunt; his great-grandchildren Oliver, Emaline, Wesley, Eleanor, and Judah Green; and his sisters Martha Myers and Lena Combs.

On Wednesday, May 22 a showing will take place for Charles at Jessen Funeral Home &Simple Cremation in Whiteland, Indiana from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. with the funeral service to follow immediately after.
