Wade A. Roth

Wade Alexander Roth, age 85 of Carmel, Indiana passed away on June 29, 2024. He was born on April 8, 1939 in Edinburgh, Indiana to his late parents, Mildred Louise (Haslam) and Bice Alexander Roth. He grew up in the idyllic small town where he cultivated friendships that would last a lifetime. At Edinburgh High School he excelled in track and basketball where he was voted Honorary Captain. After graduation in 1957, he attended Vanderbilt University where he also played basketball. He later transferred to Indiana University graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business degree in 1961 and Masters of Business Administration in 1962. While at IU he was an active member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and the IU Student Foundation among many other activities.

A veteran of over 30 years in the banking industry, Wade began his career as a money market trainee at American Fletcher National Bank in 1974 after serving as Vice President and Treasurer of Vogel Construction. He managed and grew American Fletcher’s Financial Markets and Investing Group becoming an executive vice president in 1986. He then became president of the newly established subsidiary American Fletcher Securities Inc. After the takeover of American Fletcher by Ohio-based Bank One, Wade focused on regional banking serving as president and CEO of Bank One, Crawfordsville and marketing president for Bloomington and East Central Indiana.

Wade was a leader in many professional and community organizations. A descendent of George King who donated the land for Franklin College, Wade served as a Trustee of Franklin College. Wade also served on the boards of Noble Development Industries, United Way, Junior Achievement, Boy Scouts of America Council, the Indiana Public Health Foundation, and the Indianapolis Mayor’s Steering Committee for Resource Recovery. He was a member of the Columbia Club, Country Club of Indianapolis, Key Club, Economic Club of Indianapolis, Society of Financial Analysts, and Indianapolis Bond Club.

Wade is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Gunta and a son, Dr. Adam Alexander Roth; sister, Martha Elizabeth Eberhardt; nieces, Jennifer Corry ( Jack) and Elizabeth Vandivier; cousin, Dr. Michael Stillabower and numerous grandnieces and nephews.

Wade enjoyed competitive Hobie Cat sailing in many cities; participated for ten years in the Colorado 500 Charity dirt bike ride in the scenic mountains of Colorado; and rode cross country to California on his motorcycle. In retirement he enjoyed boating in Florida and the sport of clay pigeon shooting with his friends. Wade had a wonderful sense of humor and optimistic personality. He dearly loved his family and friends and will be missed by so many.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Second Presbyterian Church, 7700 N. Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN. at 11:00 a.m. Viewing at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow in McFarland Hall at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Park Tudor School or Franklin College. Burial and gravesite service will take place on Monday, July 15, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Resthaven Cemetery, Edinburgh, Indiana.
