Eastbound SR 144 to close, westbound to open near I-69 for bridge project

The second phase of a bridge rehabilitation project on State Road 144 just over the county line will start Monday.

Beginning on or after Monday, the eastbound lane of State Road 144 near Waverly in Morgan County will close and the westbound lane will reopen. The westbound lane had been closed since early May for the project, which is just west of Interstate 69, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.

Like the first phase, State Road 144 will be reduced to one lane over the White River using temporary traffic signals while work is in progress. A 10-foot width restriction will also be in place, INDOT officials say.

Work on both projects is expected to be complete by late November, weather permitting. The work is part of a $5.2 million contract awarded to E&B Paving, the contractor, in March 2024, which includes a total of five bridge projects throughout Johnson and Morgan counties, INDOT officials say.

All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
