Motorcyclist dies in Friday night crash in Greenwood

An Indianapolis motorcyclist died in a vehicle crash late Friday night in Greenwood.

Connor David Stevens, 20, died in the fatal crash on U.S. 31 near Beechview Drive, south of Main Street, which occurred around 9:44 p.m. Friday. The Johnson County Coroner’s Office released his identity on Saturday morning.

A man was driving in the right lane of U.S. 31 northbound approaching Main Street when their car was struck from behind by Stevens, who was on his motorcycle. The motorcycle was ultimately found in the southbound lanes of U.S. 31, according to an accident report completed by Greenwood Police.

Another driver, a woman, was traveling north in the middle lane and began to merge into the far left lane. As she began to merge, she struck what she thought was an animal in the roadway. It was actually Stevens, the report says.

Police ruled the primary factor of the crash as unsafe speed by Stevens, who was wearing a helmet, the report says. No one else was injured in the crash.

All northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. 31 were closed for a time in the overnight hours of Friday and Saturday because of the crash.

Agencies that responded include the White River Township Fire Department, Greenwood Fire Department and Greenwood Police.
