FRANKLIN
Claude Ray Wood, 88, of Franklin, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at Community North Hospital after a long struggle with dementia.
He was born on April 3, 1936 in Greenway, Arkansas, the son of Orba and Dona (Sanders) Wood. He married Barbara Lou Fisher on September 14, 1956. She lovingly survives. Claude is also survived by son, Mike Wood (Donna); daughter, Cindi Burke (Stephen); grandchildren, Lauren Kohr (Tom), Courtney Marten (Dean), Stephen Burke (Christina), Dylan Wood and step-grandson, Andrew Clark (Nicole), step-granddaughter, Amanda Vaughn (Mark) and step-grandson, Matt Kennedy (Alexandria). Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Sloane, Eloise, Cash, Tommy, Luna, Jack, Gloria, Kennedy, Caroline and Griffin. He was preceded in passing by his parents; brother, Jerry Wood and sister, Roberta Goodman.
Claude was a 1954 graduate of Franklin High School.
He worked in Pharmacology at Eli Lilly for thirty-six years, retiring in 1993.
Claude was a member of Second Mt. Pleasant Church. Claude was a gifted carpenter and woodworker and he took great pleasure in keeping his property immaculately groomed. He had countless hobbies but especially loved snow skiing, boating, reading, St. Louis baseball, travel, cars and trains. His greatest, all consuming passion was his family. He worked tirelessly throughout his entire life to provide the best for them. His legacy of love and devotion will live on in his grandchildren and great grands. He will be dearly missed.
A Celebration of Claude’s Life will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin with Visitation on Friday, July 26th from 11:00 a.m. to time of service at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Second Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
