Richard Dale Field

GREENWOOD

Mr. Richard Dale Field, age 94, of Greenwood, Indiana, entered this life on July 21, 1930 in Toulon, Illinois. He was the loving son of the late Samuel Richard and Lillie Betty Moore Field. His family moved to Deputy, Indiana when he was a young child and he graduated from Deputy High School in 1948. On April 1, 1948, Dale attended a dance in Hanover, Indiana where he would meet the love of his life, Mary Frances Henry. They were united in marriage on June 4, 1950 at the Kent Baptist Church in Kent, Indiana. This happy union of 74 years was blessed with sons, Stephen Thomas and Dale Thomas and a daughter, Ruth Denise. They settled in Scottsburg and opened a grocery store called Dal-Mar on highway 31 later converting it to a grocery store.

Dale then began a career of over 40 years in the oil industry. He first began working as a regional manager with the Joe Dance Oil Company and in 1964 he moved to Indianapolis and he worked as a regional manager with Wake-up Oil Company. He then accepted a position with Kocolene Oil Corporation in Seymour, Indiana and this position would move them to Seymour where they resided for 14 years. Dale retired after 20 years of service with Kocolene as the vice president of advertising and marketing.

Dale and Mary Frances retired to Greenwood to be near their children and their families. They became faithful members of the South Port Baptist Church (now One Christian Church). Dale held membership in the Odd Fellows Lodge for many years and a member of the Deputy Alumni Association as well. Family was priority for Dale, being with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren brought so much joy to his life. He enjoyed watching and following IU Basketball, Cincinnati Reds Baseball, the Indiana Pacers and the Indianapolis Colts.

Dale died on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at 7:16 pm at the St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Dale will be missed by his loving wife of 74 years, Mary Frances Henry Field of Greenwood, Indiana; his son, Stephen Thomas Field of Greenwood, Indiana; his daughter, Ruth Denise Field Raley of Greenwood, Indiana; his daughter in law, Robette Field Cooper of Greenwood, Indiana; his sister, Martha Lee Field Stephanus of Lexington, Indiana; his sister in law, Patty Henry King of Indianapolis, Indiana; his grandchildren, Nathan Pittman (Amber), Chad Pitman (Bree), Mary Dayle Wilson (Jonathan), Kelsie Blair, Jimmy Raley (Tami), Billy Raley,Jason Raley (Tina), Brian Raley, and Aaron Field; his great grandchildren, Darren Pittman (Elizabeth), Hannah Pittman, Bryce Pittman, Carson Pittman, Mya Dayle Wilson, Izzy Wilson, Decklyn Field, Grace Blair, Aubrey Brown, Addison Raley, Lilly Raley, Tori Raley, Gage Raley, and Sierra Coady; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his son, Dale Thomas “D.T.” Field, died December 23, 2021, his father, Samuel Richard Field, died, December 9, 1987, his mother, Lillie Betty Moore Field, died September 27, 1998, his grandson, Dale Travis Field, died February 8, 1985, his son in law, Bill Raley, his sisters , Anna Glenn Field Howell, died January 31, 2010 and Betty Marie Field Nay, died April 3, 2019.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, July 28, 2024, at 3:30 pm, by Pastor at the One Christian Church, 2578 Donica Road in Greenwood, Indiana. Interment will be private in the Pisgah Cemetery in Deputy, Indiana. Friends may visit Sunday from 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the One Christian Church, 2578 Doncia Road in Greenwood, Indiana.
