ARTS

SOUTHSIDE ART LEAGUE is hosting a one-artist show by local resident Gail Trent Risner Aug. 7-31. Risner will be exhibiting a collection of her acrylic and oil paintings. Risner’s various styles reflect her interest in art movements from Impressionism to Surrealism and Realism to Abstraction. People can meet the artist at the SALI Open House, Aug. 9 from 6-8 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Visit the gallery at 299 E. SALI Summer Exhibit, artists will be exhibiting art works that follow the theme, “The Sky’s the Limit”. A wide variety of styles, subjects, media and prices will be available, including framed and unframed original paintings, matted giclee prints, ceramic sculpture, paper sculpture and greeting cards. The exhibit will be displayed for three months, now through Sept. 28.

Stop the Bleed teaches the skills needed to provide immediate bleeding control principles and aid until first responders arrive. INAUGURAL OPEN CLASS CAR AND TRUCK SHOW, Aug. 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Franklin Middle School, 625 Grizzly Cub Drive. The Franklin Community Band Boosters, in cooperation with the Franklin Cruisers, present the car and truck show to benefit Franklin’s band programs. Free admission. The event will feature food vendors and awards for the top 10 vehicles and People’s Choice. INDIANA LIVE STEAMERS, located just south of the Horse Park in Johnson County Park. Train ride dates: Aug. 17 (car show), Sept. 21 and Oct. 19. Bring your family, your friends, or anyone who would like the experience of traveling the rails on this miniature transportation network. The Indiana Live Steamers is ready to take you on a memorable journey through forested parkland, over several bridges and along cattail-lined creeks.
