Festival Country: Summer isn’t over yet

Summer is winding down, but some of my favorite festivals and events are happening this month, like WAMMfest in Greenwood and Hops & Vines in Franklin. Check out this month’s lineup and you’ll see why we call this area Festival Country Indiana.

Franklin

The Central Indiana Division of the National Model Railroad Association is returning to Franklin with the Franklin Train Show at the Johnson County Fairgrounds, 250 Fairground St. The show will be open Aug. 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Aug. 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be four buildings filled with vendors, manufacturers, portable layouts, door prizes, demonstrations, and more.

Cruise the Artcraft is making its way in front of The Historic Artcraft Theatre at 57 N. Main St. with a classic car cruise-in Aug. 9 from 5 to 10 p.m.

The annual beer and wine festival Hops & Vines will take place Aug. 10 from 5 to 10 p.m. in downtown Franklin. It will feature local wineries and breweries showcasing their best drinks, alongside live music and food. There will be an outdoor concert with the band Toy Factory at the amphitheater at 237 W. Monroe St. at 7 p.m.

Franklin is continuing their summer concert series with Crush –Bon Jovi Experience at 6 p.m. Aug. 16 and Groovesmash at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 23. There will also be food trucks at these concerts, which will be at 237 W. Monroe St.

Shop the Blocks will be Sept. 6 downtown Franklin where more than 25 local stores and restaurants will stay open late until 8 p.m. There will be live music, artists, and other fun activities scattered throughout downtown as well.

Franklin’s farmers markets are every Saturday through Sept. 21 from 8 a.m. to noon at 237 W. Monroe St.

Greenwood

Greenwood’s summer concert series is still going strong. The Aug. 3 concert will showcase The Big 80’s. The Aug. 9 concert features Toy Factory. The Aug. 10 concert features That 90’s Band. All concerts will be from 7 to 9 p.m. at 100 Surina Way.

The annual summer festival WAMMfest will take place Aug. 17 from noon to 9 p.m. in Craig Park. The event features wine, art, music and microbrews.

The Indy South Greenwood Airport, 897 Airport Pkwy., is hosting Airport Day on Aug. 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event features free aircraft rides, World War II re-enactors, helicopter rides, a vehicle display, flight simulators and more.

Final Fridays in Old Town Greenwood will be Aug. 30. Local stores and restaurants in downtown Greenwood will stay open late until 8 p.m. There will be live music, local artists, and other entertaining activities.

The Greenwood Farmers Market is every Saturday through Sept. 28 from 8 a.m. to noon at 525 N. Madison Ave.

Bargersville

The Picnic Concert series at Mallow Run Winery, 6964 Whiteland Road, will also be continuing throughout August with The Nauti Yachtys at 6 p.m. Aug. 3, The Flying Toasters at 6 p.m. Aug. 10, Blue River Band at 6 p.m. Aug. 17, and Burning Red at 7 p.m. Aug. 24. To close out the month they’ll host their Mallow Run Winery Anniversary Festival from Aug. 31 to Sept. 2 with Endless Summer Band at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Indy Annies at 2 p.m. on Sunday, and My Yellow Rickshaw at 2 p.m. on Monday.

The Bargersville summer concert series continues with live music in downtown Bargersville featuring the band Bigg Country from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Aug. 8.

Bargersville is continuing its farmers market every Wednesday through Sept. 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. at 24 N. Main St.

Whiteland

The Whiteland Farmers Markets is happening every Tuesday through Aug. 27 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 350 Clearwater Blvd.

Edinburgh

The Edinburgh Farmers Market takes place every Thursday through Sept. 26 from 4 to 7 p.m. at 201 W. Main St.

Trafalgar

Trafalgar has its farmers market every Thursday through Aug. 29 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at 108 N. State Rd 135.
