Edinburgh Police: Two women fled at high speed with children in car

Two women are in custody after fleeing Edinburgh police Saturday while they had children in their car.

Edinburgh Police attempted to stop a car on U.S. 31 and Interstate 65 around 5 p.m. Saturday after the suspects in the car allegedly stole from the Indiana Premium Outlets. The suspect vehicle fled northbound on I-65 at speeds of 100 mph, said Doyne Little, police chief.

Several agencies assisted in the pursuit, setting up stop sticks at the 90 mile marker on I-65, near the Franklin exit. The car hit the stop sticks at the 90 mile marker, pulling over over just north of the Franklin exit with two flat tires, Little said.

Two females were taken into custody by police. When officers cleared the suspects’ vehicle, they found two children inside of it — a 2-year-old and a 10-year-old. They were not harmed during the incident, he said.

Alea Turentine, 27, and Breanne Johnson, 33, were arrested on multiple charges for theft, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle and child endangerment. They were taken to the Bartholomew County jail, Little said.

The two children were released to a family member, he said.

No one was injured in the incident, Little said.
