Bargersville robbery leads to Franklin foot pursuit

A robbery in Bargersville led to a search for suspects in Franklin Monday evening.

Bargersville Police received the call regarding the robbery at 8:13 p.m. A male teen reportedly was robbed of personal items after arranging to meet with someone at Bargersville Dollar General, said Klint Brown, Bargersville Police public information officer.

Police were told four suspects in a silver van robbed the teen near the dumpster behind the store before fleeing the scene. The suspects are believed to be male teens and did not appear to be armed, he said.

A Johnson County sheriff’s deputy located a vehicle with the license plate that witnesses provided for the robbery suspects near County Road 144 and Centerline Road. The deputy kept the vehicle in sight and initiated a traffic stop at Chicago’s Pizza after backup arrived, said Sheriff Duane Burgess.

Two of the suspects were detained during the traffic stop, but two fled south on foot, he said.

Police from multiple agencies fanned out to search nearby neighborhoods along Hospital Road and around Blue Herron Park. County deputies and police from Franklin, Bargersville and Whiteland searched the area on foot and with drones and K-9 officers, Burgess said.

However, two of the teens remain at large as of Tuesday morning, Brown said.

The two suspects who were detained for questioning had not been arrested as of Tuesday morning. The investigation is still ongoing, Brown said.
