Center Grove sweeps Franklin

Center Grove defeated Franklin on Saturday, 7-0, in a modified match that marked the season opener for both teams. Tyler Lane, Quinn Smith and Yuvraj Dasari won their respective singles matches in straight sets for the Trojans, who also got doubles points from all four of its pairings: Carson Bush/Daksh Patel, Russell Dean/Dimitrios Kandris, Max Fosnot/Louis Teed and Jonathan Cracraft/Kanish Munjaal.

Whiteland edges Avon

Spencer Gillespie claimed a three-set victory at first singles to lift Whiteland to a 3-2 triumph over Avon. Gavin Stubbe and Isaac Phegley won in straight sets at the No. 1 doubles spot, with Tysen McGary and Quintin Giesking doing the same at No. 2.

Grizzly Cubs take invitational

Lexi Ray carded a 2-under-par 70 and Addi Bright added a 73 as No. 6 Franklin won its home invitational at The Legends on Saturday with a team score of 319. Reese Phillips (83), Mia Hart (93) and Mel Flora (94) rounded out the lineup for the Grizzly Cubs, who defeated runner-up Floyd Central by five strokes.

No. 11 Center Grove was third with a 332, with Amanda Wallace’s 78 leading the way. Zoe Land shot 82 for the Trojans, followed by London Dodson (85), Madisyn Bell (87) and Olivia Alvey (95). Whiteland was 17th with a team score of 493. CG’s Alana Miller carded an 87 as an individual, while Franklin’s Leah Graves finished with a 92.

Warriors overpower Tigers

Madison Fleury’s hat trick helped Whiteland to an 8-0 shutout of Triton Central on Saturday. Freshman Kinley Waalkens added two goals in her debut for the Warriors, with Bethany Floyd, Ava Fagan and Alexa LaPorte each scoring once.

Woodmen blank Panthers

Greenwood opened with a 4-0 win over Jennings County. Lily Rollings found the net twice for the Woodmen, Joelle Young scored once and Ava Brawley added an Olimpico goal on a corner kick. Goalkeeper Brooke Benefiel kept a clean sheet.

Trojans dominate Royals in opener

Class 3A No. 5 Center Grove opened its season with a 6-0 home rout of Roncalli on Saturday night. Neikos Whitney and Owen Dorrell both netted a pair of goals for the Trojans, with Whitney adding a pair of assists. Charlie Habig and Austin Lowden each added a goal and an assist.

Girls volleyball

Center Grove sweeps Vikings

Center Grove got its season started with a 25-22, 25-18, 25-19 victory over Barr-Reeve on Saturday. Ellen Zapp paced the Trojan attack with 12 kills.

Lancers drop first four

Edinburgh played four matches at Morristown’s Season Opening Classic, losing all four in straight sets. Kenna Streeval had eight kills and 57 digs for the Lancers, while Elizabeth Hernandez pulled up 56 digs.
