Joseph “Joey” Webster Lawson

INDIANAPOLIS

Joseph “Joey” Webster Lawson, 46, was born in Indianapolis, IN on April 29, 1978 to William “Bill” Lawson and Lynn (Higgins) Lawson. He went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.

He was a proud graduate of Perry Meridian High School in 1996.

Joey met the love of his life, Sara Elizabeth Darbro, on June 22, 2007. Joey referred to her as his “dream come true”. Sara faithfully took care of Joey for his last 8 years while he battled liver disease. She survives him with Joey’s “little man”, his cat, Max.

Joey had an amazing work ethic as well as a talent for construction. He worked for Circle B Construction for 15 years building one of the 11 ellipses in the world, Plainfield Mall. He loved working with his hands and excelled at anything he crafted with his hands. He truly had a God given talent and was so proud of projects he collaborated with his fellow journey men: the Indiana State Museum, Plainfield Mall, and the beautiful St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church, in Fishers, that oversaw and directed. He loved the complexity and attention to detail from deck building. One such project he was exceedingly proud of was for his father, Bill, and stepmother, Jane. He took pride in his creation of things as a carpenter, just like his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, did. As his Grandfather Morton “Dutch” Higgins told him, the deciding force for Joey to join the Indiana’s carpenter’s union, “Jesus was a carpenter”. He, then, followed suit immediately after high school graduation.

Joey was blessed with two little sisters, Lynde and Mya Lawson, who loved him dearly. If you know Lynde, you know she loved being “just like Joey” in everything including his wardrobe and work boots.

He was also blessed with an aunt and uncle, Tina and Dan Nohe, that loved him like a son, kept a loving and watchful eye over him, nursed him back to health when he was sick, and helped him when he was at his lowest. He loved them with all his heart, and they were like a rock in life’s tumultuous tempest for him.

Survivors include his fiancee, Sara Darbro; his stepmother, Jane Lawson; his sisters, Lynde and Mya Lawson; grandmother, Ozora Lawson; Aunt Tina and Uncle Dan Nohe, Aunt Krystal Higgins, Uncle Art Lawson, Aunt Helen Lawson, and Aunt Linda Lawson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Lynn (Higgins) Lawson; grandparents, Morton “Dutch” and Margaret Higgins; uncles, Rex Higgins, Joe Lawson, and John Lawson, and aunt, Terri Lawson.

The family will have a Celebration of Life Open House for Joey Lawson on Sunday, September 8th, from 4:00-7:00PM, at Emmanuel Church Garfield Park Campus, located at 743 E. Pleasant Run Pkwy S. Dr., Indianapolis, IN 46203.
