UIndy unveils new Neuroscience concentration

The University of Indianapolis is adding a new Neuroscience concentration

The concentration is an option for all undergraduate psychology majors in the College of Education & Behavioral Sciences and students who have completed the biology and chemistry prerequisites, including pre-med and other pre-health profession students. University officials say this will provide students with expertise in a high-growth area where employers are searching for talent.

The new program is designed to be a job-focused and innovative degree that allows students to pursue a wide variety of careers. Neuroscience roles are expanding beyond medicine with roles in tech, finance, healthcare, consumer products, government and more, according to a press release from UIndy.

The projected-based and portfolio-building curriculum is designed to help students produce a powerful resume before graduation and ensure the opportunity to stand out to hiring managers in any field. The new programs are available starting this fall through a partnership with the Lower Cost Models Consortium and Rize Education, university officials say.

“We are thrilled to be able to provide an additional option within the psychology major that will help students learn the skills that employers and graduate programs are asking for,” Dr. John Kuykendall, dean of the School of Education, said in the release. “This concentration directly addresses the needs of Indiana hospitals and behavioral science institutes. We’re looking forward to the internship and career opportunities these unlock for our students.”
