Applications for Indiana Statehouse internships open

Applications to intern with Indiana House Republicans for the 2025 legislative session are now open, according to area lawmakers.

In a joint statement, local lawmakers encouraged local college students and recent graduates to apply for spring semester internships at the Statehouse in Indianapolis. The internship would take place during the legislative session, which starts in January and concludes in April. House interns earn $900 biweekly and work full-time, Monday through Friday.

“Statehouse internships offer a unique perspective on the legislative process and the workings of state government,” State Rep. Craig Haggard, R-Mooresville, said. “We are eager to welcome enthusiastic students who want to make a difference in Indiana.”

The internships are open to all majors. Interns get free parking, career and professional development assistance, enrollment access to an Indiana government class, and opportunities to earn academic credits through their college or university.

“Our internship program provides invaluable experiences for those seeking to learn more about state government,” State Rep. Michelle Davis, R-Whiteland, said. “We are looking for dedicated and innovative students to join us in 2025.”

Interns can also apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship for undergraduate and graduate expenses.

“Serving as a House intern is a remarkable way to gain practical experience in public service,” State Rep. Peggy Mayfield, R-Martinsville, said. “We invite students who are passionate about making a positive impact to apply for our 2025 program.”

The program offers opportunities for students to work in various departments related to their studies, including legislative operations, policy and communications.

“College is a great time for young Hoosiers to gain meaningful experience in the workplace,” State Rep. Robb Greene, R-Shelbyville, said. “Interning at the Statehouse offers an immersive experience where students can grow personally and professionally all while getting paid.”

Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.

Senate Republicans and Democrats in both chambers offer similar internship programs.
