Greenwood man in custody after non-fatal shooting on County Line Road

A man is in stable condition after a Friday morning shooting in Greenwood.

At approximately 6:23 a.m. the Greenwood Police Department responded to the area of West County Line Rd and Meridian Street for a report of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers encountered a 35-year-old Greenwood resident, later identified as Thomas Jefferson, according to a press release from Greenwood Police.

Jefferson sustained several non-life-threatening gunshots to his leg and arm. He was taken by ambulance to Methodist Hospital where he is currently listed in stable condition, police say.

Police determined the shooting took place in a nearby residence in the 10 block of West County Line Road. A man who lives in the home, Randell Emberton, 59, of Greenwood, was taken into custody for questioning. It was determined that he and Jefferson were “well acquainted,” police say.

This case status was described Friday morning as “currently ongoing and fluid.” Detectives are working closely with the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office which will determine if and what charges may be filed in the future, police say.
