Joyce R. Smith

EDINBURGH

Joyce R Higginbotham Smith went to her heavenly home on September 6, 2024, to be with her Lord and husband of 65 years, Lloyd C. Smith. Joyce married Lloyd on November 14, 1959. He preceded her in death on August 16, 2024.

She was surrounded by her loving family and is survived by her children; Beverly (Dale) Burton of Franklin, Dallas (Anita) Smith of Franklin and Michael W Smith preceded her in death.

She was blessed with eight grandchildren – Nathan Smith, Jeremy Burton, Joe Smith, Brandon Smith, Britney Schaffer, Nikya Dorton, Tyler Smith and Heather Green. Also blessed with 13 great-grandchildren – Cashious Cunningham, Elliot Smith, Lennox Smith, Cameron Smith, Cyrus Smith, Kendrick Smith, Jadyn Burton, Kylie Burton, Elizabeth Burton, Laycen Schaffer, Bella Schaffer, Adaline Dorton, and Eleanor Smith.

She is survived by her sister Phyllis Hardwick of Florida, Alice Higginbotham of Kentucky and brother Jackie Higginbotham of Kentucky. Along with several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Ashley L &Helen Higginbotham, brothers Andrew Higginbotham, Jerry Higginbotham, Dallas Higginbotham, L.A. Waldon Higginbotham and Cledis Higginbotham, and Sister Lennie Higginbotham. Her sister-in-law Vina Higginbotham, Alice Higginbotham, Annis Higginbotham, and brother-in-law Dillard Hardwick.

She first raised her three children until they finished school, then pursued a career in retail, working at GTR with CEO Gene Nolen and later as the salad preparation lady at McDonald’s.

Joyce enjoyed spending time with her family, she and Lloyd would go shopping and out to eat; loved growing her garden and quilting.

Joyce had many trials and sicknesses during her life but was a devoted servant to her Lord. She gave her life to the Lord at an early age and faithfully attended and supported Who So Ever Will Community Church, Edinburgh, IN.

Joyce was raised on a farm in Russell Springs, Kentucky, along with seven brothers and sisters. Growing up, she loved to spend time working on the farm with her father, she worked hard all her life at anything she wanted to accomplish.

Her services will be held at Who So Ever Will Community Church, 623 Eisenhower Drive, Edinburgh, IN on Thursday, September 12th from 4-8, funeral service will be held on Friday, September 13th at 11 am by Rev Randy Denton.
