Arrest made in Interstate 465 road rage incident with local ties

An Indianapolis man was arrested for allegedly pointing a firearm at another person during a road rage incident on Interstate 465.

Indiana State Police Dispatchers received a 911 call reporting an incident that involved someone pointing a firearm at about 11 a.m. Tuesday. Troopers responded to the last known location of the suspect vehicle, finding it in Franklin, according to an ISP news release.

As the incident was investigated, detectives found a Taurus revolver inside the vehicle belonging to the suspect, 59-year-old Douglas Tandy of Indianapolis. Detectives learned about an alleged road rage situation between the suspect and another driver on I-465 near East Street, on the southside of Indianapolis, according to the news release.

Based on this information, probable cause for Tandy’s arrest was developed. Tandy was arrested on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, a Level 5 felony, along with Level 6 felony counts of intimidation with a deadly weapon and pointing a firearm, state police say.

These charges are preliminary, and final charges will be determined by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. Tandy was incarcerated at the Marion County jail.

ISP troopers added in the news release that they have responded to 53 shootings on Indianapolis-area interstates since January 1, along with another 213 incidents of road rage that involve someone pointing or displaying a firearm but not firing shots.
