Craig Haggard: Indiana House internships a launchpad for tomorrow’s leaders

As we look toward the 2025 legislative session, the Indiana House of Representatives is once again opening the door to one of the most immersive and transformative experiences available to college students and recent graduates, the Indiana House Republican Internship Program.

This opportunity isn’t just a line on a resume, but a gateway to a future in public service, law, communications and countless other fields. The internship is open to majors of all kinds, not just those in political science.

Each year, our internship program attracts some of the most motivated young individuals from across the state. They come to the Statehouse eager to learn and witness firsthand how our government works while serving the people of Indiana. Our interns contribute to the legislative process in meaningful ways across multiple departments.

We offer internships across several departments, including legislative, communications and policy. Interns work directly with state representatives, attend committee meetings, assist with research and bill tracking, and help facilitate constituent services. In the communications department, interns will draft press releases, help schedule media interviews and create weekly e-newsletters.

This spring semester internship spans January through April and gives students the opportunity to earn $900 biweekly working full-time, Monday through Friday at the Statehouse in Indianapolis. College credit is also available.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this experience is the mentorship interns receive from our staff and members. Throughout the legislative session, interns have access to a wealth of knowledge from seasoned professionals who are eager to pass along their insights. These connections can extend beyond the internship itself and provide guidance and connections that benefit interns throughout their careers.

I encourage all eligible students and recent graduates to consider applying for our 2025 program. Whether you’re studying political science, communications, business or any other field, this internship offers a unique opportunity to explore your interests and develop your professional skills.

Applications are now open, and I urge you to not miss out on this opportunity.

The deadline is Oct. 31 and applications can be found on our website: indianahouserepublicans.com/house/internship.
