ISP reports increase in email extortion scams

Indiana State Police Detectives have recently received an increase in reports of a common email extortion scam.

Each of these scam attempts include similar tactics and target a victim by including the person’s name, address and sometimes a photograph of their home. In the email, the scammer claims to have installed Pegasus spyware on the victim’s phone and attempts to extort money from them.

Anyone who has been affected by this scam, or any other cybercrime should report it by visiting ic3.gov/
