15-year-old arrested after making threat on Franklin schools

A 15-year-old was arrested for making a threat on Franklin Community High School Thursday.

The threat was reported to the Franklin Police Department Thursday afternoon and detectives began investigating immediately with cooperation from Franklin Community School Corp. officials.

As a result of the investigation, a 15-year-old female high school student was arrested and taken into custody at the Johnson County Juvenile Detention Center, according to a press release from Franklin Police.

Police continue to work closely with school officials to ensure a “complete and thorough” investigation.

“The Franklin Police Department appreciates the support from everyone involved in this investigation and arrest. We will continue to work together to keep our children and community safe,” the release says.

Police could not make further comments on the nature of the threat as the investigation is still pending.

However, Franklin Police Chief Kirby Cochran emphasizes that making threats is a crime and police will make arrests and forward charges to the prosecutor’s office for all credible threats.

This is the third threat incident in a few weeks that has been reported on Franklin schools. Earlier this week, a separate threat incident was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office, but the student was not arrested at the time.

Other incredible threats based on internet rumors have recently been reported against other school districts including Center Grove, Clark-Pleasant, Indian Creek and Edinburgh. Those incidents were part of a wave of school threats that swept across the country and impacted many school districts in Indiana.
