Bargersville, Whiteland fire chief released from hospital

After 13 days in the hospital, Bargersville and Whiteland fire chief Eric Funkhouser is back home.

Funkhouser, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor in early September, had been recovering at Franciscan Health Cancer Center since having surgery to remove the mass on Sept. 16. He posted on Facebook that he was heading home on Sunday, though he will continue to receive outpatient rehabilitation.

Since he was diagnosed, Funkhouser and his family have received an outpouring of support from fire departments around the state as well as the community at large. A #FUNKCANCER t-shirt and wrist bracelet campaign was started to help the Funkhouser family with medical and other costs.

Orders can still be placed until the end of the day Monday at funkcancer2024.itemorder.com/shop/home.

In that same vein, Greek’s Pizzeria & Tapp House locations in Franklin and Greenwood are hosting a fundraiser Monday in support of Funkhouser.

The dine-to-donate events are being held from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Greenwood location and 4:30 to 10 p.m. at Franklin. A portion of the proceeds from all dine-in, delivery and carry-out sales will be donated to support Funkhouser and his family.
