Work continues on the southside as construction crews work to complete the I-69 Finish line project.
The western half of the Interstate 465/Harding Street interchange closed Monday for up to 60 days for ramp reconstruction. This work includes the eastbound I-465 exit ramp to Harding Street, as well as the Harding Street entrance ramp to westbound I-465, according to an Indiana Department of Transportation project update.
The detour routes for this work follow I-69 to Southport Road before going back onto I-69 to get onto I-465, and vice versa.
Elsewhere on Interstate 465, drivers should expect a single right lane closure on westbound I-465 between Interstate 65 and Harding Street through Thursday, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., for bridge work and beam deliveries.
Flagging operations will take place on Mann Road near I-465 through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., for underground traffic signal work. Additionally, Carson Avenue over I-465 will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday to place concrete blocks at each end of the bridge so crews can continue bridge work, according to INDOT.
Also beginning at 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday, I-465 westbound and eastbound between I-65 and Interstate 70 will be reduced to a single, 11-foot right lane, for milling, paving, concrete patching, bridgework and lane-shift operations. During the double-lane closure, ramps between I-65 and I-70 will also be closed to traffic, INDOT officials say.
Drivers should know that construction traffic may enter and exit the construction site. Travel delays are expected too. Drivers should buckle up, put their phones down, and travel the posted speed limit through the work zone, according to INDOT.
INDOT officials also want to remind drivers that the entrance and exit ramps on the east side of Harding Street at I-465 are open, along with the westbound I-465 exit ramp to Mann Road (Exit 7). However, the southbound U.S. 31/East Street entrance ramp to westbound I-465 is still closed.
As for I-69, temporary lane closures will be in place on the northbound and southbound lanes, between Banta Road to Fairview Road, for installation of temporary pavement markings between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m Thursday evening and the evening of Oct. 8.
INDOT is also reminds drivers that the speed limit along I-69 between State Road 144 and Fairview Road is now 55 mph in Johnson County. However, in Johnson and Marion Counties, speed limits are still reduced throughout most of the I-69 Finish Line corridor. Drivers should follow all posted speed limits as construction work continues through the remainder of 2024, officials say.
