BALLOT QUESTIONS

Constitutional amendment

In 2022, the Indiana General Assembly initiated a process to remove the state superintendent of public instruction position from the list of potential successors to the governor position. The former position was changed from an elected position to the governor-appointed secretary of education.

The resolution to amend the Constitution passed the second time in 2023 and now will be Public Question No. 1 on the general election ballot:

“Shall the Constitution of the State of Indiana be amended to remove the state superintendent of public instruction from the list of officeholders who shall discharge the powers and duties of the governor if the office of the governor and lieutenant governor are both vacant?”

Judicial retention

On the ballot: Three Indiana Supreme Court justices — Chief Justice Loretta H. Rush, justices Mark S. Massa and Derek R. Molter — and two Court of Appeals judges — Judge Peter R. Foley of the First District and Judge Rudolph R. Pyle III of the Fourth District.
