Floyd W. Watson

TRAFALGAR

Floyd W. Watson, age 82, passed away peacefully on the morning of Monday, October 7, 2024, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin, Indiana. A longtime resident of Trafalgar, Floyd was well known as the local barber, affectionately referred to by many as the “Mayor of Trafalgar.”

Born on September 4, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Kenneth H. and Shirley H. (Preston) Watson. Floyd was a proud 1960 graduate of Trafalgar High School. After high school, he served honorably as a Private in the United States Army Reserves. Floyd later graduated from Indiana Barber College in Indianapolis, setting the foundation for a lifelong career in barbering.

For the past 62 years, Floyd owned and operated Floyd’s Barber Shop in Trafalgar, where he became a beloved figure in the community. Before establishing himself in Trafalgar, he worked as a barber in downtown Indianapolis for a couple years. Floyd’s shop became a place not just for a haircut but for laughter, storytelling, and camaraderie, drawing people from near and far.

Floyd was also a former member of Trafalgar United Methodist Church and loved being an active part of the small town he called home. He cherished spending time with his family, especially his daughters and grandchildren, and took great joy in their milestones. In his younger years, Floyd enjoyed fishing and hunting with his father. As he grew older, he and his wife, Sandy, found joy in traveling together and caring for their yard and beautiful flower gardens.

Floyd is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Sandra S. (Hommel) Watson, whom he married on September 16, 1962, in Morgantown. He is also survived by his daughters, Brenda (Jeff) Johnson and Cathy Watson, both of Trafalgar; his cherished grandchildren, Cody Johnson of Trafalgar, Casey Johnson of Chicago, IL, Carlee (Sam) Novick of Trafalgar, Kaylin (Hunter) Pickett of Elyria, OH, and Derik (Maura) Foley of Trafalgar; and his great-grandchildren, Gamet Hoyt Pickett, Watson Ridge Pickett, Amelia Foley, and Rowan Foley.

In addition to his parents, Floyd was preceded in death by his beloved baby sister, Kimberly Watson.

A funeral service to honor Floyd’s life will be held on Monday, October 14, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation &Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street, Morgantown, Indiana. Friends and family are invited to visit from 11:00 a.m. until the service time. Burial will follow at First Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Franklin.
