Richard A. “Rich” Carney

Richard A. “Rich” Carney, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2024, at the age of 83. Born on June 22, 1941, he lived most of his life in Greenwood.

Rich graduated from Greenwood High School in 1959 and remained an active alumnus. A man of honor and duty, he served his country proudly as a Navy veteran. After his military service, he married his wonderful wife, Beverly in August 1964. He retired in 2003 from a career with the Federal Aviation Administration at Indianapolis International Airport.

He is survived by his loving daughters, Kathy (Larry) Harris, Julie Carney, and Jenny (Ed) Kim; his sisters, Karen Renfro and Susan (Andy) Cummick; and his treasured grandchildren, Collier Masten, Carly Ellen, and Caden Allan Harris; Riley Carney; Reagan Noble; and Carter Allan Kim. Rich was a source of endless support and wisdom for his family, and his legacy of love and strength will continue to guide them.

Rich was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beverly J. (Noble) Carney, with whom he shared 50 years of love and life; his parents, Thomas E. Carney and Eva M. (Surface) Patrick; and his brother, James R. Carney.

Rich was a man with many talents, skills and hobbies. He was mechanically inclined and could fix just about anything. In his younger years, he was quite skilled at playing pool and bowling. His lifelong hobbies included working crossword puzzles, reading, and pitching horseshoes. In his later years, he enjoyed meeting friends at the VFW for bingo and karaoke. Rich was a good friend to many, an excellent dancer, and an avid Indiana Hoosiers basketball fan.

Throughout his life, family remained his top priority despite having a variety of interests. Whether it be in the form of attending a recital or sharing a conversation over dinner, he always made time for his loved ones. Rich will be missed by many and remembered fondly as a hardworking and good-hearted man.

For those wishing to pay their respects, a Celebration of Life will be held at Wilson St. Pierre Family Funeral Service located at 481 W. Main in Greenwood, IN on October 16, 2024 from 1-3pm with a service immediately following
