Postseason pairings set

Johnson County’s teams received their sectional road maps on Sunday evening, with all of the county’s smaller schools getting first-round games at home next week.

In Class 4A, Greenwood will host Shelbyville next Friday, with the winner moving on to face either Bedford North Lawrence; heavily favored Martinsville is on the other side of the bracket. Also in 4A, Roncalli hosts Northview in the opening round, with potential semifinal and final matchups against rivals Brebeuf Jesuit and Bishop Chatard. Indian Creek will begin 3A sectional play with a home game against WIC rival Edgewood, which it defeated earlier this season; either North Harrison or Corydon Central would await in a semifinal game.

Greenwood Christian and Edinburgh were placed on the same side of their sectional draw, with the Cougars taking on Eastern Greene and the Lancers drawing the same North Decatur team that it lost to by 82 points on Friday.

Center Grove begins its quest for a 14th straight sectional crown on Nov. 1 when it travels to Jeffersonville for a 6A semifinal; Franklin Central and Columbus North face off in the other semi. In 5A semifinals on Nov. 1, Whiteland travels to Decatur Central and Franklin will play at Columbus East.

Lancers finish sixth in tourney

Edinburgh defeated Central Christian in straight sets but lost to Cardinal Ritter and Lanesville in three sets each and Southwestern (Hanover) in two on the way to a sixth-place finish at the Lancer Invitational on Saturday. Kenna Streeval led Edinburgh on the day with 25 kills and 64 digs.

Women’s soccer earns home win

Maddison Claybrooke scored a pair of first-half goals as Franklin College earned a 2-1 home victory over Bluffton on Saturday. Jaiden Baker assisted on both goals for the Grizzlies (4-5-2, 3-1 HCAC).

Swim/dive opens season at Purdue

Franklin College got its season started in the Dan Ross Indiana Intercollegiate at Purdue on Saturday, with the women’s team placing sixth and the men seventh. Zachary Jackson-Blaine was the top individual finisher for the Grizzlies, taking seventh in the men’s 50-yard freestyle.

Volleyball manages road split

Playing a pair of matches in Ohio, Franklin College was swept at HCAC foe Bluffton before bouncing back with a five-set triumph over Alma on Saturday. The Grizzlies are 9-13 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Men’s soccer blanked by Beavers

Franklin College gave up one goal in each half of a 2-0 loss to Bluffton. The setback dropped the Grizzlies to 0-11-2 overall, 0-3-1 in the HCAC.
