Greenwood police investigating Molotov cocktail thrown at home

Police and fire officials are investigating after someone allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail at a Greenwood home.

Greenwood Police were called to a home on the 200 block of Clayton Lane around 4:20 a.m. Thursday. This is in the Clearbrook Park subdivision, west of U.S. 31.

Someone allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail against the front of the home’s garage. The homeowner put out the fire, said Matt Fillenwarth, assistant chief of police.

A Molotov cocktail is a crude, hand-thrown bomb. It consists of a bottle filled with a flammable liquid, such as gasoline, and usually fitted with a wick, such as a saturated rag, that is ignited just before the bottle is thrown.

Detectives and the Greenwood Fire Department’s arson investigator are actively working to investigate the case, Fillenwarth said.

Anyone with any information should contact the Greenwood Police tipline at 317-865-0300, Johnson County 911 dispatch at 317-346-6336, or Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
