Lancers eliminated by Chargers

Edinburgh’s season ended Friday night with a 71-6 home loss to Class A No. 4 North Decatur in sectional quarterfinal action on Friday night. The Lancers (0-10), who trailed 43-0 after one quarter and 64-0 at halftime, scored their lone points on a fourth-quarter touchdown pass from Caleb Murphy to Luke Fowler.

Football drops thriller against Lions

Franklin College scored 29 fourth-quarter points, including two touchdowns three seconds apart to take a late lead, before Mount St. Joseph had the last word in a crazy 46-43 win at Faught Stadium on Saturday. The two teams combined for 1,141 yards of offense.

The Grizzlies (2-5, 1-2 HCAC) got on the board first with Garrett Cora’s 20-yard touchdown run before the Lions (6-2, 4-0) responded with two TDs to take a 13-7 lead. Cora scored again from 41 yards out, but the visitors scored once before halftime and again shortly after to go into the fourth period with a 27-14 advantage.

After Kai Ross scored on a 1-yard keeper and threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Cora, Mount St. Joseph found the end zone again to go up 40-28 with 4:07 remaining. Franklin, though, stormed back, with Ross throwing a 40-yard TD to Malachi Joy at the 2:16 mark and a loose ball on the ensuing kickoff was recovered by Haidyn Bulmer for another score that put the home team up 43-40. The Lions, though, scored on a Jackson Gifford run with 42 seconds to go and a Grizzly Hail Mary went unanswered on the final play.

Cora rushed for 179 yards and added 59 more on five receptions. Ross threw for 256 yards, with Owen Wright catching five balls for 134 yards. De’Marreia Stephens paced the Franklin defense with 10 tackles.

Volleyball drops rivalry clash

Going five sets on the road, Franklin College wound up on the wrong end of a 22-25, 28-26, 26-18, 24-26, 15-11 score at Hanover on Saturday afternoon. Four players had double-digit kills for the Grizzlies (9-16, 0-5 HCAC) — McKenzie Schroeder (17), Kaitlyn Lavy (16), Hope Moring (13) and Trinity Schroeder (10), with setter Brionna Linkel collecting 49 assists and 20 digs.

Men’s soccer ties with Ravens

Ian Rowe stopped six shots for his eighth career shutout, helping Franklin College preserve a 0-0 home draw against Anderson. The Grizzlies (0-13-4, 0-5-3 HCAC) were outshot by a 16-12 margin.

Women’s soccer earns stalemate

Franklin College battled Anderson to a 0-0 tie on Friday night. Makenna Mundy made three saves for the Grizzlies (5-7-3, 4-3-1 HCAC).
