Shirley (Morgan) Calvert, 87, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
She was born in Davy, West Virginia on May 4, 1937 to Felix and Jessie (Cummings) Morgan (both dec.). She graduated from Welch High School with honors. She married Willard E. Calvert on May 26, 1956. They were married for 56 years until his death on June 27, 2012. The couple had three children: Debra (Calvert) Jones, Darrell E. Calvert and Michael C. Calvert (deceased).
She is survived by sisters Mrs. Noka Bishop & family, Mrs. Nita Stamper & family, Faye June Darby (dec.) & family, brothers Ray Morgan (dec.) & family, Jack Morgan (dec.) & family, daughter Debra (Michael) Jones, Darrell (Lori) Calvert, Michael Calvert (dec.), stepchildren Karen (Calvert) Perry (dec.) & family, Brenda (Calvert) (Ken) Pund & family, & Dale Calvert family. Grandchildren include Christi (Calvert) Knight, Matt Jones, Will Calvert, Elizabeth Jones, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren and step great-great-grandchildren from both the Morgan and Calvert families, as well as beloved friends and relatives in Kuttawa, Franklin, Bowling Green (KY), Georgia, and Indianapolis, IN.
She worked in banking for the former Franklin Bank & Trust Company in Indiana. She and her husband purchased then later sold a successful trucking business in Indiana. They lived for a time in Corpus Christi, TX and loved their home there. In Georgia she served as the Operations Officer for the former Chattahoochee State Bank until she and her husband returned to Kuttawa, KY. She used her spiritual gifts to serve the Lord as the church treasurer for Chestnut Oak United Methodist Church in Kuttawa, KY where she and her husband were active members. Her interests included bible study, quilting, sewing, reading, gardening, and spending time with family & friends. Her final residence was at Magnolia Springs Independent and Assisted Living in Indianapolis, IN.
A memorial service will be held at The Chestnut Oak United Methodist Church, 87 State Highway 1271, Kuttawa, KY on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either to The Chestnut Oak United Methodist Church, or the Chestnut Oak Cemetery Fund, PO Box 136, Kuttawa, KY 42055.
