College notebook: Messer picks up heptathlon win for IU men’s track
Freshman Garrett Messer, a Center Grove graduate, won the heptathlon for the Indiana University men’s track and field team at the Hoosiers’ indoor invitational with 4,691 points. Indiana State freshman Parker Doyle reached the finals of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.36 seconds.
Franklin girls basketball falls to No. 7 Jennings County
The schools are an hour drive apart, but Franklin and Jennings County reside next to one another in the season’s final Class 4A poll.

Isaac Lewis hadn’t expected to be anything more than a spectator on the second day of last year’s state swim meet. He’d competed in the 200-yard individual medley preliminary the night before, but his Saturday afternoon was supposed to just be about supporting his Center Grove teammates.
